tonight's festivities are brought to you by inspiration from the land down under. ryan's brother, chris, served his mission in australia so we really wanted to incorporate this one. in australia it is in the middle of the summer on christmas so they celebrate a bit differently. they usually have a bbq or a roast of some sort outside followed by swimming on the beach. here is what we came up with:
hamburgers.......yum!!!!
our original plan was to go to the y and go swimming, but charlie woke up this morning puking so we thought it might not be the best plan for the rest of the community swimming with us. we created our own "beach" right in our living room. oscar is trying to figure out how to do the "hang loose" sign.
we let the kids watch merry madagascar since it is about christmas and they are on a beach. double bonus.
the other australian tradition is to have a pudding dessert. they would hide "a small favor" inside and if you found yours then you were meant to have good luck next year.
ali found her "favor". we did bouncy balls for all the kids. we helped them find it right away so no one choked.
daddy helped livy with hers
the boys were too fast. here is all their prizes. they weren't nearly as excited as we thought they would be......oh well.
miss maggie got nothin'. she's a bit put out about the whole thing.
i found mine!!!!!!! hooray, we need good luck next year.
daddy found his too! oh, what a lucky family we are!!!!!!!
merry christmas australia, thanks for sharing your traditions with us this evening.

I love the picture of Livvy, it looks like she's saying, "you put that in my pudding?" Hilarious! I think we should celebrate Australian style and head to the beach...except it's freezin. Lucky Australians.
You guys are such great parents. Your kids will never forget this!!
Looks like you're having loads of fun! If you want Honduran ideas let me know...ha ha.
Josh had me rolling on the floor laughing over this picture! https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-USBbOAv1Cb0/Tug8Lq68mNI/AAAAAAAAGUA/P4_LJDVzoeg/s0/DSC_4941.JPG We were looking at the girl's feet and toes and they literally appeared to be life size directly in front of our face. Josh was cracking up and exclaimed, "I sure hope they smell good and they aren't like too stinky!" I laughed and said, "why don't you find out!" He grinned and said, "okay" then leaned close and pressed his nose kind of between her toes and the ball of her right foot and began sniffing and smelling her toes and foot. I was literally cracking up. He finally looked at me with a gigantic grin and exclaimed, "they smell great LOL!"
